Even if Ebola does make it to the UK, the chances of a major outbreak are very small. There is much better treatment systems, more doctors, better hospitals, and better hygiene than in many of the poorest parts of Africa where the disease is most common. Most of the transmission in the early part of the outbreak was because people didn’t know how to behave, to wash their hands and not to touch people who are ill without protective clothing, and it is very difficult to teach people when there are only a few roads and no easy communications.
We don’t know if Ebola will ever come to the UK, but as Kate has said even if it does we are much better equipped to deal with it than in other countries.
