      Good question. The objective of the experiment is to study neutrino properties. These properties that we are studying are for example:
      – The way neutrino interact: You want to see what kind of signal the neutrino will create inside your detector (if it’s light, if it’s radioactivity…)
      – The oscillation properties of the neutrinos. Namely when you create neutrinos of a certain type somewhere (like in the JPARC), and then you let them propagate a long enough distance you can detect another type in the detector. I think somebody used the image of Clark Kent and Superman: When he wants to interact and speak with people, Superman becomes Clark Kent. But when he travels, he becomes again Superman. The only thing is that we he wants to speak again after travelling, Superman may have become somebody else instead of Clark Kent!

      These are some very weird properties that are coming straight from Quantum mechanics and Relativity…
