I am researching what makes volcanoes erupt? And what controls how they erupt? Two very simple, and very basic questions that have very complicated answers. As we can’t forecast what will happen at a volcano if we don’t know how it works, we need to do experiments like the ones I do to work it out .

I’m working on a few different projects, one is on materials for biomedical implants, and the other is on how important it is to have good physics teachers. Both are really important to me, I love my work on materials but equally I’m really interested in working with the next generation of scientists and making sure that they have the best science education they can.
