• Question: How much money do you usually earn from your job?

      It’s not about the money. I do what I do because it is interesting and I like doing it. Some geologists, especially in the oil and gas and mining industries ear a lot more money than I do, but a lot of them do exactly the same thing every day, and I don’t know about you but I would get really bored.

      As PhD, I earn around 15000 pounds per year. But as Kate says, fundamental sciences are not the way to make a lot of money, it’s to make a good brain!

      I earn just pushing £30K, but I have to stress that those in academia or research definitely do not do it for the money. We could probably earn more in industry. I think we have a love of the job, and waking up and actually wanting to go to work is more important than the money.
