I finished my PhD in 2011 and started doing postdocs. I started my first lectureship in August 2013, so not really very long.

I started my first bit of research in September 2001 as a volunteer, and then started my PhD in 2002, so I have been being a Research Scientist since then really. I started my first “job” which if you are an academic like me is usually as a “post doctoral researcher” in April 2007 and am now on my third one of these positions. People in research tend to move around a lot, usually moving to the best laboratory for each project. My career has taken me from Hawaii to Glasgow to London, back to Glasgow, then to Manchester and the Diamond light Source synchrotron, and now to Munich.
