I’ve always said that the most important part of any job I had is that I want to enjoy what I am doing. If I can not worry about money while I do it then that’s perfect. Luckily, I can tick both of those boxes.
I’m only a PhD student, still living with friends, so I don’t have to have a mortgage or anything yet but any worries about money would never affect which career direction I went.

I think anyone would agree that having money is better than not having money, but for me the most important thing is getting up and actually wanting to go to work. I can’t imagine being miserable in a job for over 40 years.

I love what I do. Being a research scientists is not about the money, although of course getting paid to do what you do is a bonus! My job is not the best paid in the world and I have to work weekends and nights sometimes, but I get to travel the world, do difficult and exciting experiments and always enjoy my job.
