Like many people who enjoy what the do I am always happy to talk about it! Not many people use the techniques I do to work in geology, so I am often explaining how it works and what it can be useful for to other reserachers as well as to friends and family. I’m not sure they “like” it, but they usually find it interesting, and ask questions, and my family have been able to come and visit a volcano.

      Hello
Yes I have told about sciences to my friend and family, they either think I am completely crazy, either find it very interesting and ask questions like you are doing right now. Generally, it is easy to go into stuffs very complicated and loose them quickly, and that is basically when they start to hate it.
So as a scientist, I think we have to keep science accessible and fun to people who ask about what we are doing, because it is really fun, seriously. The only thing is that it is usually related to long class, mathematics and equations, that people usually find boring…

My friends and family like hearing about what I am doing, but sometimes they get a little mixed up. Because I recently did some work on dental samples, when I tell people, they start telling me all about their toothaches! Once it gets to the point that they start trying to show me the inside of their mouths, I have to remind them that I’m not a dentist.
