Cancer isn’t a disease, it is just some part of a cell going wrong and telling the cell to reproduce too much. This means that it it will probably never be possible to cure cancer, it would be the same as trying to stop anything ever going wrong. The best that we can do is to make a load of different ways to be able to treat cancer once it forms to help people survive it more often.

I think some types cancers may be preventable or at least, normally curable in the future. For some types we have high success rates with radiotherapy and chemotherapy already. Most cancers are easier to treat when identified early, and lots can be prevented by being healthy (not smoking etc.). I know there is reserach going on to look at developing drugs or other forms of therapy that only target mafunctioning cancer cells, but I don’t know how advanced we are in this work, or how many cancers this kind of approach might work on.

Sadly not, as Jos has said cancer isn’t a disease in the common sense of the word, and therefore cannot be cured.
