Favourite Thing: Coding. I love making programs. It makes computer do things I want it to. The challenge is great too, think about what you want it to do, which bits need to do what in what order, and any problems just make the feeling when you get it working even better. (Drinking tea is also a big thing in science – a lot can be achieved with a cup of tea next to you)

Me and my work

The aurora is formed by an interaction between wind from the sun and a big magnetic field around the Earth, I’m looking at and trying to model whats going on.

My Typical Day

Tea. Some reading. Some coding. Start a simulation. Tea break. Pull hair out because simulation broke while on tea break. Some more reading. Some sort of sport.

What I'd do with the money

Take a bath in £5 notes.

My Interview

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Really, really great.

Who is your favourite singer or band?

Can never decide this one. Huge range, from Taylor Swift to random french stuff

What's your favourite food?

Curry. Hotter the better. (and custard creams with a cuppa)

What is the most fun thing you've done?

Flying a plane was really fun – I did lots of aerobatics that scared me a lot but were really fun. The best is called a ‘Stall turn’, you fly straight up until the plane stalls(engine stops) and then you turn and fall back towards the ground, eventually the engine starts again(you hope!)

What did you want to be after you left school?

I’ve never been sure. I was never fussed about having loads of money, I just wanted to enjoy what I was doing and be comfortable.

Were you ever in trouble at school?

Early on I didn’t try hard enough, but then I realised that if i needed to do well I had to put the effort in, so I buckled down.

What was your favourite subject at school?

Maths / Science / PE

What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?

What or who inspired you to become a scientist?

I want to know everything!

If you weren't a scientist, what would you be?

I still have dreams of being a professional football player, somewhere in league 1 or 2.

If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!

1. See previous. 2. Ability to fly. 3. Speak any language.

Tell us a joke.

Knock Knock. ‘Who is there?’ ‘The postman’. ‘Oh one second, I will just let you in’. *Unlocks the door*. ‘Here is your parcel’ ‘Thanks’ ‘Goodbye’ ‘Bye, thanks again’
