Thank you from your winner, Lisa

lisasimmons-wWow! After two weeks of, I’m a Scientist I wasn’t sure what to do with myself come 3 pm on Friday, when the final chat closed. What a great experience it has been, a big thanks you to all the students, teachers, the I’m a Scientist team, and all the scientists that took part in the event.

Events like this cannot happen without the engagement from students and it really is great to see so many of you interested in what we do as scientists, and the questions were just fantastic! I miss logging in every day and seeing new questions, I have learnt a lot of new science by researching around the questions, and looking at the answers that the other scientists gave.

The live chats were lots of fun, my typing skills are now much better. The energy in sessions was electric, and it was really inspiring to see so many of you share a passion for learning about science.

I hope that you learnt about areas of science that interest you, but also learnt what it is like to be a scientist, and what we do in our day-to-day jobs. I think that scientists are very lucky, we get to work on projects that we are really interested in, and no two days at work are ever the same, we could be in the lab, out doing some field work in other countries, or sat with our computer crunching data. I hope this came through in the answers, and that you are all considering a career in science.

I’m so happy to have won, a big thank-you to everyone that voted for me. I’ve decided to give my money to my Science Ambassador Team, a bunch of students who love doing outreach work, and going out to schools. We are going to build up some science experiments that we can bring into classrooms, hopefully from 2015 we’ll be already. You never know we might come to your school.

Thanks again to everyone, it really was fun 🙂

Lisa.
